Information on Free Parent Workshop - Speech and Language Plus
Attention parents! There is a FREE parent workshop coming up relating to Autism & Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) on March 14, 2015. It is being hosted by the University of Miami-Nova Southeastern University Center for Autism and Related Service at the NSU campus in Davie, Florida.
I feel that providing parents with practical and useful tools is essential in helping them help their children at home. Therapists are not always around so one of the roles of a Speech Language Pathologist working with children is to help parents infuse communication into daily life, even when it is difficult.
This workshop appears to hit some key points for parents of children using AAC, especially those children on the Autism Spectrum. Practical considerations for supporting children with ASD who are minimally verbal or nonverbal at home will be the focus. They will be discussing strategies for helping children move beyond just requesting in order for them to develop their abilities to use AAC for a wide range of purposes. This is what we want for all of our AAC users!!
Check this one out if you can. There is no fee, but it does state that pre-registration is required.
To pre-register, call 954-262-7111. It really sounds like a great parent course!
