School is staring tomorrow for Broward County. I am sure there are many incoming kindergarteners (and parents) who are a little nervous about starting a new, big school. Explaining what will happen at school and bringing your child to open house or a meet and greet can easy some fears and anxiety, but why not try calming nerves with some literacy too!
This link, http://www.cozi.com/live-simply/10-books-perfect-new-kindergarteners, is an article called 10 Books Perfect for New Kindergarteners. The books they discuss are:
The Night Before Kindergarten, by Natasha Wing
Kindergarten Rocks!, by Katie Davis
Countdown to Kindergarten by Alison McGhee
Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten, by Joseph Slate
First Day Jitters, by Julie Danneberg
The Kissing Hand, by Audrey Penn
Welcome to Kindergarten, by Anne Rockwell
Wemberly Worried, by Kevin Henkes
Lookout Kindergarten, Here I Come, by Nancy Carlson
The Berenstain Bears Go to School, by Stan Berenstain
Each book is summarized for you in order to see which might be best for your child.
Remember, everything in school is language based. Whether your child is participating in reading, math, science, social studies, or social skills, being able to understand language is the underlying foundation for them all. Keep exposing your child to a language rich environment filled with literacy experiences! If you find your child struggling, please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns so we can help you.
Hope you have a wonderful first experience in elementary school. Have a happy first day of the 2014-15 school year!
